Perhaps the novelistic origins show a little too often, be it overwritten dialogue or hamfisted sprigs of narration, but honestly, no one can deny Goldsman's ambition here. He rounds up a stellar cast with great production values and one of ZImmer's sweetest scores in ages for a fairly moving, if sometimes overreaching, love story.
