Review of Winter's Tale (2014) by Dean K — 06 Dec 2014
They say the best love stories are the sad ones. When a thief (Colin Farrell) falls for a beauty (Jessica Brown Findley) who has consumption in 1900s New York, you know where this is going. But then in the third act something strange happens. What is the true purpose about this movie about miracles, love, demons and angels?
I have to admit I rolled my eyes through most of the third act. Even with an all-star cast including Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, William Hurt, Will Smith and Eva Marie Saint, I just didn't want to follow the movie into the mess of the third act.
There are some bright moments here, another masterful score by Hans Zimmer and even a couple feel warm inside movie moments but for the most part the movie never really lives up to its potential. I am not sure if the book explains more but I was left flat. 3 out of 5 So Says the Soothsayer.
