Review of Winter's Tale (2014) by Jay T — 02 May 2015
Well, file this under: "Sometimes It's Good To Not Know Anything About a Movie Before You Watch It". This is one of those Book-to-film movies where I had intended to read the book first, but Hollywood beat me to the punch.
It's a fantasy, fairy-tale, mystery all wrapped up in one little package and I LOVED it!! The critics HATED it! (Ahh, what the hell do they know!).
It's got a great cast including Colin Farrell, William Hurt, Jessica Connelly, Russell Crowe and Jessica Brown Findlay (OK, I didn't know either... she played Sybil on Downton Abbey.) It goes between present and past times and is ultimately the battle between good and evil and the search for love! One might say this is a little schmaltzy, but pretty much any love story could be summed up that way. Anyway, it's running on HBO at present and it will be 2 hours of your life that you won't want back. I can't say how I would have felt if I had read the book (which I will when I have a moment) or even if I knew what to expect.
