Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Sarah O — 11 Jan 2012
Mmm, thought it would be better, but it wasn't. I appreciated the outdoor landscapes of the country. Reminds me of the forests around me in the fall, but it wasn't enough to save the film. I'm not that interested in the "rustic" lifestyle, and the people kind of lived up to all my predisposed expectations of them anyways, so nothing new here.
Gee, they don't talk about each other, they take care of their own, they are involved in illegal activities, they drive old cars. Jennifer Lawrence did a fine job as a young girl looking after her siblings since her mother is mentally ill, but it really wasn't enough to make me care about any of these characters, you know, like in the sense that I care what happens to them.
