It's so beautifully yet realistically gloomy that the knowledge that you're watching a movie flees from your mind as quickly as any assumptions about Jennifer Lawrence's Ree. When I say her performance was unspeakably magnificent, I am being literal - often Lawrence wins our attention and sympathies without ever uttering a word.
