Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Adam S — 25 Mar 2014
"Winter's Bone" is a harrowing and haunting tale set in the Ozark mountains in the United States of America, telling the story of a young girl who must juggle caring for her sick mother, raising her young siblings and tracking down her meth-addict father so they don't lose their house to the courts.
The film showcases the ugly underbelly of the illicit drug world, and also showcases a brilliant performance by Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role, one of her first big breaks in the industry.
It moves slowly, and it takes a lot of effort to get through some of the moments, but Winter's Bone is a brilliant film for those patient enough to see it.
