Review of Winter Sleep (2014) by Walter M — 06 Jan 2015
A beautiful but harsh viewing experience, Winter Sleep is an intimate epic. The themes run the gamut from marriage to community to wealth, but the most potent, and indeed most important, theme of this film is the lies we tell ourselves in order to pretend to be someone we are not.
The main character, Aydin, runs around the movie like some king, pontificating wisdom and ideas, never realizing he never takes his own advice. Though the length is certainly felt, the sublime beauty and knockout writing bring Winter Sleep into another realm.
