Review of Winter Passing (2006) by Torrey P — 06 Jun 2007
Not a very well known film but it has a pretty amazing cast; Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel and Ed Harris all give performances worth seeing. The plot is a bit complex and includes Ed Harris, a once famous author, his daughter (Zooey) and then Harris' two live in helpers (Will Ferrel and Mandy Siegfried).
Zooey is forced back home to find the infamous lover letters that circulated between her mother and father in hopes to sell them to a publisher and receive a large payment (which she needs to feed her drug habit).
This is a dark comedy for sure, there are alot of scenes where you feel that each character is unhappy and will never be fulfilled, but by the end, much of the skepticism is over and their futures seem promising.
I strongly recommend this film if you are looking for a subtle comedy combined with the seriousness of life and death.
