Review of Winter Passing (2006) by Daniel K — 01 Sep 2007
The mood created leaves an indelible mark and is unmistakable. However, the opening definitely does not make one want to move back to NYC. It seems to me that independent films tend to focus much more on atmosphere and be much more effective in creating it than typical Hollywood fare.
Overall I thought the performances were quite good, but I am very sorry to say that Deschanel did not stand out (not like All the Real Girls or perhaps even Elf). I didn't necessarily find her deficient in any respect, but Ferrell, Harris, and Warner were superior.
I certainly hope Warner's career takes off relatively soon. I've loved her in Mansfield Park and Aeon Flux.
