Review of Winter Light (1963) by Sherri S — 25 Mar 2008
A successful portrayal of a man whose whole inner life has become an absolute void of emotion and belief. In his shell-like state he cannot feel empathy for those around him, and he has lost all faith in God.
Since this man happens to be a priest, the scenes in which he delivers sermons, counsels parishioners, and discusses scripture are especially eerie and disconcerting. This film represents an entire generation who saw no place for God in the modern world.
