Review of Winter Light (1963) by Annelies S — 13 Jan 2011
Definitely one of Ingmar Bergman's darkest films.
My favourite Swedish actor of all time Gunnar Björnstrand plays the priest who loved his wife so much that after her death he totally lost his faith in God. And he is not the only one. In the deserted village the few churchgoers attend the Holy Communion and they all seem to have lost their faith in God and have no expectations in life, let alone that they are supported by the priest.
I really prefer Bergman's dark comedies to these type of movies.
