Review of Winnie the Pooh (2011) by Zuhaib R — 29 Jul 2011
Many people may not decide on seeing Winnie the Pooh opening weekend because of the fact that it's being released head-to-head with Harry Potter. Though, I don't think you should skip it. Winnie the Pooh is a fun little movie that's great for your child's first movie-going experience and will get some chuckles out of you. Winnie the Pooh is a great pleasurable Disney film, it's completely safe for the kindergarten kid, and it's not a film that a person is going to thoroughly hate. There's a lot of heart in here, there's some fun adventures, and the characters are charming and funny. I'm a 14 year old boy who loves action and horror movies and I really enjoyed watching this. Nobody out there is going to hate it. There's something about this movie that just fills every audience member with the feeling of happiness. I know, that may sound quite weird, but you'll understand if you see it.
So Winnie the Pooh returns, and the film tells us the origins of this whole story. This young boy Christoper Robin pictures all of these little animal characters who live in 100 Acre Wood in his imagination. This classic Disney tale is brought back to the big screen and Pooh and the gang go on these little adventures, them being: 1.)Whoever provides Eeyore with a tail wins a large pot of honey, 2.) Pooh, who fails to provide Eeyore with a good enough tail, must search for some honey before he basically looses it, and 3.) Pooh and the crew must catch a beast in the woods named the "Backson" who they believe captured Christopher Robin.
So, there's a lot going on here, but it flows at a good steady pace with a fair run time of only 60 minutes. The film is narrated by John Cleese and Zooey Deschanel handles the music for some reason. I'm really glad that the animators stuck with the original animation for this film. It's colorful, detailed, and is nice to look at. I didn't want to see a bunch of CGI Pooh bears running around.
The voice acting is terrific and the audience will feel what the characters are emotionally feeling. It's a pretty good script with some great humorand terrific musical scenes that become very catchy, I must say. It really sticks very well to the characters' dopey characteristics that we've seen in the original.
Overall, Winnie the Pooh is a nostalgic, harmless, fun little film that has a fair run time and that most of the family will enjoy.
