Review of Winnie the Pooh (2011) by Asif K — 20 Nov 2011
Sometimes you want to just kick back with a sweet, charming, 70 minute cartoon that doesn't inundate you with vapid frills and stupidity. The latest Winnief The Pooh film radiates such simple charm and sweetness it almost seems like a revelation.
There's still a great deal to be had in watching A.A. Milne's classic characters, especially when they're drawn by hand. There's Pooh, the stuffed bear owned by young Christopher Robin and we're reacquainted with him as he starts his day finding food, and then offers to help his friend Eeyore find his lost tail.
That's all for plot. Voice work comes courtesy of John Cleese's narration and the songs sung by sweet Zooey Deschanel. Jim Cummings provides the voice of Pooh, filling in for the great Sterling Holloway, but best of all is Craig Ferguson as Owl.
Winnie The Pooh hardly provides food for thought, it's just good fun. Exactly why it should be seen.
