Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Seth D — 26 Jul 2008
I'll just come out and say it: This film is art of the highest caliber. One of a small handfull of films that, when I saw it the first time, changed my life. The director presents a study of dreams, desire, existence, purpose and yes, love, and creates a world in which we do not desire to be but rather realize we already do exsist. Gorgeously photographed, lit, written scored, acted and directed this film should be held up as an example of what film can achieve. And it is not purely academic "film for film's sake" that only film majors will be able to comprehend. Of course I imagine many film schools using this as study material. People much more versed in the world of art and film than am I can be found through the Eternal Reviews section on IMDB. I encourage anyone even remotely interested in great film to see this.
Oh, and btw, anyone having anything to do with the Hollywood remake, right down to the theater ushers, should be deeply ashamed of themselves for participating in such blasphemy.
