Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Darren J — 11 Feb 2008
This was a real audio visual experience. The visuals are stunning as the camera floats around berlin as it follows the angels around. Also the use of colour - monochrome for the angels and colour for the real world.
Works really well. The soundtrack is thick with sound. The sounds of the streets, peoples' thoughts, and the music join together to make this really great mix. The story itself is very simple, but at the end of the day this film is more about the soul, than about story.
Also this was one of the first films to use actors playing themselves, as in Peter Falk playing himself, but also playing a character in the film, blurring the line between fantasy and reality. The film could be slow for some people, but at the end of the day this is an experience were you should sit back and take in every second.
It's worth it.
