Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Victor V — 05 Apr 2008
I liked what the movie was trying to do, which is show how great it is to be a human, especially in the little things. The remake, City of Angels (1998), was much better. Most of the dialogue in Wings of Desire is in poetry form, so when two people are talking to each other, it doesn't actually make sense unless you're fluent in poetry language.
The movie is very slow-moving, which isn't necessarily bad, but when it finally does get some traction, the conversations that happen leave you saying, "I have no clue what that means." If you want to see a movie about angels observing humans and becoming very interested, I'd recommend City of Angels.
