Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Craig M — 16 May 2008
Not to be confused with the insufferable Nick Cage/Meg Ryan melodrama, 'City of Angels', 'Wings of Desire' is a filmic poem celebrating what it means to be human at the most elemental level.
Wenders' soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful and his stark, unforgiving B&W imagery of Berlin is both heartbreaking and breathtaking. Bruno Ganz gives a touching and soulful performance as an angel longing for love and experience.
This is one of those films that makes the world a better place.
