Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Mike O — 29 Jun 2008
This is poetry on film, more evocative than any film I can think of. Made without a script as an attempt to keep a production house from going under it just took on a life of it's own and seems so much more carefully crafted than it actually was.
Easily the greatest accidentally brilliant film of all time and a stunning insight into pre-unification Berlin, a unique moment in time and art. Stunning in every way. The DVD version looks crisp and rewarding with a frank and fond commentary by Wenders and has the added bonus of a deleted pie-fight scene that might have once been the ending of the movie! Too crazy to even think about! This is it folks! The last word in arthouse! My pick for the greatest "arthouse" film ever made.
