Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Trill F — 13 Jun 2009
Forget the Hollywood remake, this film is so poetically original it just might shatter your mind. Both intellectual and remarkably touching, the premise makes you realize that there are so many areas in cinema left to explore.
The contrast in cinematography keeps things highly unique - just think Matter of Life and Death. Ultimately, this is a truly spiritual fantasy film with a brilliant metaphor on East and West Berlin. Heartfelt performance from Bruno Ganz also helps elevate this art film.
Then of course there's Peter Falk lending his dry wit and quintessential American talent. Wenders was clearly in his prime here.
