Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Eric B — 06 Nov 2009
Landmark film that finally pushed Wim Wenders into the world of cinematic giants (although Paris, Texas is no slouch either). In short, Bruno Ganz plays an angel who falls in love with a human woman played by the late Solveig Dommartin.
The story unfolds in a way that is both lyrical and moving, and is something that should be seen by all, preferably more than once. Look for some great cameos by Nick Cave and Peter Falk. A note: stay away from City of Angels, the Americanized remake of this film.
It does nothing but tarnish this masterpiece.
