Wings of Desire may well be an enigmatic masterpiece. It is definitely on which I feel the need to watch again. Bruno Ganz is superb as the angel who falls in love with a high-wire artist and yearns to become mortal.
Peter Faulk puts in an unlikely, yet compelling turn as himself and there is a great scene in which a young Nick Cave shows us why he is such an enduring musical talent. Wings of Desire is obtuse at times, on first viewing anyway, but it grows into a film of tremendous resonance.
