Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Derin S — 30 Jun 2010
This movie really is something else. The plot is minimum, summarized almost entirely in the synopsis, yet powerful enough to sustain the story. This is an art film if there ever was one, as you'll either be taken by the beauty and the elegance of the shots, or you won't. It's hard not to, however, as most of the movie is seen from the black and white eyes of the angels, who watch Berlin from above and listen to the sad and lonely thoughts of its citizens.
Do not threat, though, there is deep meaning in this movie that calmly but surely swims to the surface, and makes for a very good, if unfinished ending. Often it will leave you confused, as all the main characters know much more than the viewers ever do, but that confusion is not always a bad thing.
B+.
