Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Carlos R — 06 Sep 2010
The first hour of this just sort of washed over me. I didn't understand what was going on, to be honest. Some of the scenery was remarkable and Ganz's face was holding my attention. If it had continued in this manner I am sure I would have given up, but the film brightened up and started to really create a mood.
The second half was quite powerful, mostly because of the imagery. I would say that this film could probably survive without 90% of the dialogue which is often unnecessarily poetic. There's enough in the visuals and ofcourse the soundtrack which I will be researching.
I will take this as a standalone film even though there is a sequel.
