Review of Wings (1966) by Cecily B — 07 Feb 2010
Winner of the first Academy Award for Best Picture, "Wings" is a 1927 war-drama that displays a captivating array of footage from the wings of an airplane. Even though this is a silent film, I was still engrossed within the story and the images on screen. Set during WWI, "Wings" tells the story of two young men at war and the women they've left behind. While I struggled a bit with the story's end, I found it intriguing that the "war is hell" theme that we're so familiar with now was just as prominent in the arts 80 years ago.
This may be a difficult movie to get your hands on, but I strongly recommend it. (4/5 stars).
