A good story and an interesting element of history, but not that great of a movie. The acting was all subpar (course, I don't usually expect much from Mr. Cage, so that wasn't surprising) and the battle scenes, though pretty good, were nowhere near the greatness of scenes from movies like Saving Private Ryan and Letters from Iwo Jima.
Overall, the movie could have been great, but it took a slightly cheesier, generic take than I liked.
