Review of Wind River (2017) by Johne C — 01 Sep 2017

I liked this movie. The acting was good. I liked that it called attention to one of the issues on the reservations.

That being said, yet again we see the same narrative of the white man saving the Native Americans. I think this is a trope that removes their agency which is sad. I wish Hollywood would move past this.

All that aside the nerd in me was a little distracted. It was a mini Twilight reunion with the actress who played Leah Clearwater playing the ex wife, the actor who played her father Harry Clearwater playing the reservations chief of police, and the actor who played Billy Black the father of the young woman who died. There was also a mini marvel reunion with the actor who plays Hawkeye and the actress who plays the Scarlet Witch playing the FBI agent, and finally to top it off the actor who played Shane on The Walking Dead playing the boyfriend. That is a lot of fandom in one place. Lol.
