Review of Wind River (2017) by Moviesoul — 25 Aug 2017
This is a good film, but it has its flaws. The pacing is slow at times, and the emotional impact of what is happening in the film isn't always reflected well in the facial expressions and reactions of the actors (I can't say more without giving away the plot, but my pet peeve is when two leads in a film have time to focus on just each other when many bad things have just happened around them involving many other people, as if those other lives are less important).
Jeremy Renner is great, as usual, but if you're going to cast against character and place Elizabeth Olsen as an FBI agent, you better develop the character more completely than was done here. As a result, she's not very convincing as an FBI agent, even a new one.
But the story is compelling, the scenery is beautiful, which makes this a good, but not great film. Not for the faint of heart though - there's a couple of grisly scenes.
