Review of Wind River (2017) by Craig V — 26 Aug 2017
Overall a very good movie, but a particular sequence stops this from being a great movie. The majority of the movie is a slow murder mystery - why was this girl running so desperately, who was responsible for this, and to a lesser extent what were the cultural implications of this?
The majority of this movie is relatively slow with doling out the plot details and hints, similar to older Hitchcock movies. Unfortunately, this ends when it comes to the time of the plot reveal - which is done in a blatant blunt flashback fashion which is a contradiction to the rest of the movie's style and a poorly done one at that.
Still, the ending is fitting and reminiscent of old Westerns (even if it happens on a snow covered mountain instead of a desolate flat desert), and overall the movie is excellent even if the weak reveal sequence lowers the movie to good overall.
Other notes worth mentioning is that the main character's family is almost pointless - the most important family member in the main character's family (besides the MC) is the one who is not present in the movie, and the others are frankly a bit useless.
Also, this movie has "Executive Producers" the way other movies has extras. I've never seen a movie with that many listed.
Still, definitely worth seeing overall, though the flashback scene will prevent this movie from entering the legendary movies list.
