Review of Wind Chill (2007) by I Am A — 16 Jan 2009
A really rather good little chiller, that borrows from various other films (I was put in mind of Roadkill and when When Harry Met Sally in particular), but uses all the elements very effectively, thanks to its way above average script and the performances of the leads.
(Emily Blunt is frankly excellent.) I must admit I had very low expectations, though I did perk up a bit when I saw that this was one of those George Clooney / Steven Soderbergh productions - I don't necessarily like everything they've done, but at least they tend to make interesting choices.
Low on gore, but very atmospheric, overall, it's got something of a Rod Serling feel, or that of a good episode of Tales From the Crypt. And given how much sheer awfulness a horror fan has to sit through, that's no bad thing.
