Review of Winchester '73 (1950) by Patryk C — 25 Jul 2012
Good, but not great, western with a marvelous performance by James Stewart. It starts off with a fantastic shooting contest scene, where Stewart's character arrives in a small town and competes with an equal opponent for the titular prized weapon.
As the dramatic action ensues, Stewart wins the Winchester, but his problems are yet to begin. After the gun is stolen by his low-life contender, a psychologically-tense chase begins to unravel on the screen.
While the plot carries a few intertwining stories simultaneously, it is really engaging and compelling in its grace. Stewart's heroic portrayal is spot-on, and the final few minutes mark a truly thrilling title in the genre.
