Review of Winchester (2018) by Suzanne M — 14 Feb 2018
To understand the movie Winchester it's best to know some basic history of the house and of the earthquake of 1906. Also if someone is expecting a blood and gore movie, you won't get it. The story basically follows the story of Sarah Winchester and her belief that the family is cursed by all of the Indians killed by the rifles.
She believed that if she ever stopped building and adding on to the house she would die. The movie also is in the spirit of some of the classic movies of the true haunted house movies like The Legend of Hell House and The Haunting (of Hill House).
and to an extent Rose Red. These movies make the viewer actually use their mind and question can a house be truly evil and haunted. Or is it all in a person's mind and does that person's beliefs influence thoe who come in contact with them.
What I found extra eerie was at the end of the movie the only known picture of Sarah Winchester was shown. A picture taken secretly by one of her workers. Since I have been to the Winchester house seeing the house and grounds again made me wonder.
Was it really in her mind brought on by the grief from loosing her husband and daughter, or was she being pursued by the ghosts or those murdered by the guns?
