Review of Win Win (2011) by Benjamin F — 20 Nov 2011
Screenwriter/Director Tom McCarthy hits the cinematic Trifecta - hat trick if you count UP - with Win Win. Win Win is a thematic extension of his previous films, all of which are variations of the Good Samaritan archetype.
Just like The Station Agent and The Visitor, Tom uses B list actors with A list talent. McCarthy has a gift for creating flawed, but loveable characters who struggle to do the right thing in a world of moral ambiguity.
A must for your DVD collection. SPOILER ALERT - the window ornament from the beginning of the picture has special significance and adds a whole layer of meaning to the film. See if you catch it.
