Review of Win Win (2011) by Gregory K — 21 Sep 2011
I'm beginning to become quite a fan of Tom McCarthy. Between 'Station Agent', 'The Visitor' and this, he's a filmmaker that needs no introduction for me. I can start watching his films and know he made it.
And his films are all good, which is nice... I love Giamatti. The man... is a terrific actor with A LOT of heart. Never half-asses a performance and it shows here. Bobby Cannavale should be noticed much more after this one.
He's hilarious. Amy Ryan is the heart of the family. Maybe even the movie for me. She's amazing. Jeffery Tambor is always awesome. And now for newcomer Alex Shaffer. His lack of emotion, at first, comes off as subpar acting but actually, you grow to love him as much as Ryan and Giamatti do.
It's a very very sweet movie that you should definitely seek if you're looking for something warm and sweet with characters that you'd have a barbeque with if they existed. Actually, I would totally cook out with Giamatti.
.. Anyway, check the movie out!
