Review of Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! (2004) by Jurate P — 20 Feb 2010
Maybe I'm stupid, but this movie was not absolutely awful (as it quite obviously seems). I think this was because it had Topher Grace in it, and he was playing that adorable, awkward best friend character that I always sympathize with.
I love me some Topher Grace! But once my Topher-colored glasses were forcibly removed from my pretty little head, I started to see this movie for what it really was: it was not a cutesy little rom-com, it was a frivolous and poorly written affair.
Josh Duhamel could smile all he wanted after that, but he no longer was able to sway my opinion of his movie! And don't get me started on little Miss Katie Bo! She was absolutely DREADFUL and unbelievable.
She was such a Mary-Sue. I had to wonder what Topher saw in her as opposed to the much more likable and at least DEFINED Ginner Goodwin, looking a bit plump it what was surely one of her earliest roles.
The movie was lessened in my eyes when I realized that the central character was weak and dull. I will say this, though: I did like the ending. I was happy because Topher was happy, and not because he was with that stupid wench Whatever-Kate's-Name-Was.
I didn't like, though, how Kate -suddenly- realizes just HOW MUCH she looooooves Topher as she's on a plane with Tad Hamilton, who, despite being shallow, is deluded into thinking he loves her.
Heartbreaker, much? And then they somehow manage to turn the plane around in mid-air so she can be returned to her true love, who she never even showed any chemistry with or seemed to have any more-than-platonic affection for.
It was...sickening, maybe. Let me close this review with a quote from the movie: "Everyone has their Tad Hamilton." And I just might think that Topher Grace is mine. Or not, I don't know.
