Review of Wimbledon (2004) by Elaine J — 04 Aug 2009
I honestly think the people in charge got carried away with wanting to appeal to a UK and US audience so much so that the quality of the story was sacrificed. Though far from terrible, Wimbledon is very much the poor relation of the pleasingly uplifting Britcoms such as Notting Hill or Love Actually.
An interesting film but lacks depth. The idea of a british champion who falls for the good looking american Kirsten Dunst is a good initial idea and the film starts off well, but quickly looses momentum and the romance between the two is the only real story in the film as the tennis is quite predictable - at no point do you believe that he will not win the tornament. The cameos from various legends of Wimbledon TV coverage are a nice touch.
