Review of Wimbledon (2004) by Anna B — 23 Mar 2011
Talk about a movie suffering from an overdoes of cuteness. Ech! There's no script to speak of really, just 90 some minutes of Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany going through one romantic cliche after another.
And despite the fact that director Richard Loncraine (Richard II) had access to shoot at historical Wimbledon stadium, he's more concerned with filling the movie with as much cuteness as possible.
Dunst is Lizzie Bradbury, a hot-tempered tennis player getting her first big shot, and Bettany is Peter Colt, a Brit tennis player once ranked 11th in the world, now 119th. Is Peter past his prime? Is tennis really Lizzie's ambition or is she just trying to please daddy (Sam Neill)? Do you care? No surprises, nothing at stake.
Boring.
