Review of Wimbledon (2004) by Sophie Y — 27 Aug 2009
Paul Bettany is the star of this movie. He definitely outshines Kirsten Dunst's performance and does a killer job of delivering his witty one-liners and being really personable with the audience. Though the thought monologues are a but cliche and overdone, he makes them his own and does wonderfully. James McAvoy also stole the screen during his short but hilarious scenes as the non-supportive brother trying to get laid. Bernard Hill, with his little screen time, does very well. Sam Niell makes a surprise appearance as Dunst's father and was dull and bland, which was a shame.
Overall it was a cute, romantic comedy with the intensity of a Wimbledon championship and the only reason why I hold this dear to my heart is my extreme adoration of Paul Bettany and tennis.
