Review of Wimbledon (2004) by Rebecca H — 01 Jul 2011
Hmm, it's about time for another Brit-flick rom-com, right?
Paul Bettany is admirable as the typical insecure Englishman romantic lead Peter, and Kirsten Dunst plays an American. Obviously they must fall in love. There's also some tennis, which in the correct hands, actually feels like it is important.
But for some reason London has been painted in Union Jacks and big red buses, almost as if this is a partly American film and they might not know where London is.
And, when it comes down to it, I neither care about tennis, nor this couple's happiness.
The most interesting thing in the film is the friendship between English tennis player Peter and German tennis player Dieter, but that's not exactly the crux of the story. Harmless fluff but no lasting joy.
