Review of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) by Grant K — 20 May 2012
In no way can I understand why the author of the book, Roald Dahl, disliked this movie. It is an upbeat, positive, funny, and inspirational film that brings the inner child back. Gene Wilder's performance of Willy Wonka is suiting due to Wilder's reputation as a comedian and his odd antics in cinema.
He also plays the part wonderfully fitting all of the characteristic Willy Wonka, a genius, a madman, and most important of all, a good person. I recently watched the 2005 version, and the 1971 version is hands down the best of all.
