Review of Willow (1988) by The V — 02 May 2014
Obviously inspired by J.R.R Tolkien, Willow is great entertainment. Lucas Entertainment creates a sort of Star Wars type of movie but blends it in with the world of Tolkien and at times pokes fun at the genre of Sword & Sorcery which at the time plagued much of the 80s like slasher movies did.
Willow is sent on a journey to protect a baby who has the power to destroy the evil Queen Bavmorda. To protect the baby, Willow teams up with a great swordsman named Madmartigan (played in true comic and heroic form by Val Kilmer) as both head forth to the evil queen's castle for a final showdown.
Some nicely done effects and acting save the uneven and silly plot. This is still a great piece of adventure movie making at it's finest.
