Review of Willow (1988) by Brett W — 17 Feb 2010
Before Peter Jackson finally managed to accomplish a substantive wizard fantasy, Ron Howard was hopping the short bus with Willow; a film about a dwarf (hobbit) who must protect a baby (ring) from the evil queen (Sauron) and her hell hound (ringwraith) minions.
Though it doesn't have the visual splendor of other 80's fantasy films like Labyrinth, Dark Crystal or Legend, it does survive being lost in the annals of forgettable-film-purgatory thanks to the thick layer of "me decade" gunk that has carefully preserved it in all its' jumbled glory.
