Review of Willard (2003) by Lara D — 19 Aug 2011
Despite Crispin Glover's absolutely stellar performance, "Willard" never reals lifts off. The problem relied in its unfitting style and tone in relation to its content and subject matter.
There was no correlation between them and the entire film felt a mess, emotionally and aesthetically. I think the film would have benefited from a lighter, more comical Jean-Pierre Jeunet-esque tone and a more whimsical style to it.
Luckily, Glover delivers an eerily powerful performance that is more than enough to keep you watching the rest of the film. One very commendable aspect of the film was the director's amazing ability to bring character to the animals, especially with Ben and Socrates.
It was very interesting and funny to watch, but sadly, it did not reach it's full potential.
