Review of Willard (2003) by Blind P — 27 Dec 2004
So appropriate to mix metaphors in describing this film, as the practise reflects the fact that we can enjoy this as long as we forget our sensibilities.
Stereotypes abound in highly exaggerated fashion, as the social outcast with the crazy widowed mother struggles against the evil and cruel duo of boss and wife, with only the heart of gold temp chick to understand his value.
The use of the Jackson Five's "Ben" was humourous at one point, with the big bad rat Ben exerting his dominance over that prissy mouse Socrates as we move along.
The irony of the cat being hunted by the rats was also smirk inducing.
In the end, however, we could enjoy this as a lark, but it didn't soar to any heightened enjoyment worthy of a positive score.
For a SS Spin '4', we wouldn't tell people to avoid this trap, just don't expect to find it baited with rich cheese.
