Review of Will Ferrell: You're Welcome America - A Final Night with George W. Bush (2009) by Aaron S — 03 Aug 2010
I love Will Ferrell. I could watch anything he does for considerable lengths of time. Except for this. It gets old after about 20 minutes, which is unfortunate. He doesn't work as a stand-up. Even in character, as Bush, he works better on a set with physical comedy.
This is poorly constructed. There ARE funny things here, but way too many painfully unfunny bits precede the good stuff. You won't want to wait around to get there. Still, Ferrell does a great Bush, even though his accent fades after nearly every other sentence. I still love Ferrell, and he could make 10 crappy movies in a row, and I would still want to see number 11.
