Review of Wild Wild West (1999) by Robert B — 26 Nov 2011

This is a poor film and one I didn't enjoy at all. It has a weak story, unlikable characters and it's an example of a badly executed big budget film. It's is an outlandish comedy with no solid consistency.

I'd assume that a cast consisting of talented actors like Will Smith and Kevin Kline would help this film, but there's nothing that their performances really do to make Wild Wild West better. The only parts of the film I liked were the interesting historical settings where you're shown a glimpse of Washington D.

C. and the White House, as well as some of the scenes in the locomotive carriage, but that's it. There are so many far fetched and ridiculous elements that it's hard to consider this a serious Western movie, even if it is a comedy.

It plays out like a cliché comedy/action sketch that's been poorly constructed and put together. The film really derails at the end and just becomes over-the-top silly. While the idea behind making a film like this had potential, I definitely didn't find it to be good comedy/action film or a good Western.
