Review of Wild Wild West (1999) by Mike L — 10 Sep 2009
I think this movie effectively killed Will Smith's streak of summer blockbusters with a swift kick in the balls ended his movie and music charm with a high yelp, as he dropped to his knees. Yes he was nominated for Ali, but that was the year after so it was carry over and the rest of his stuff has been just OK.
Much like most of the 60's TV shows brought onto the recent big screen they get the fascination with new technology right but to steal a quote from a 60's era show (but much like the present day I will purposely modify it) "Unfortunately, the names were not changed to protect the original." The list would include Lost in Space, Avengers, Wild Wild West.
This movie lacked the style, suspense, drama, humor, and visual originality of the TV show. Yes it has the names right; West, Gordon, and Loveless, and they had a train but that is it, so what. It would of been a much better movie if they would of done 2-3 short movies and retained the integrity of the TV show instead this load of crap.
I give it 20% only because it is still one of my favorite TV shows.
