Review of Wild Wild West (1999) by Jim W — 07 Jul 2010
Wild Wild West isn't Will Smith's best at all. He was basically cast as James West just for hell of it, so he could make a hip-op Wild Wild West song. Not to sound prejudice, but when an original character is white, he should stay white, just like if an original character is black, he should stay black. Who would want to see Kevin Costner play Shaft after all ? lol.
I mean Barry Sonnenfeld was supposed to be a fan of the tv show, yet he hacked up the story just so Will Smith could have a part. I'm sure Smith could do a western, but he wasn't right for this one. He tries hard and he's lively as always but Wild Wild West just wasn't a good movie for Smith. Smith pretty much just acts the way he does in the MIB movies, but he's not as funny, but mostly because the material isn't as good.
