Review of Wild Things (1998) by Deb S — 12 Feb 2010
This is a very sexy thriller filled with greed, lust, intrigue, betrayal and revenge with an impressive cast list, Kevin Bacon, Neve Campbell, Bill Murray (as the lawyer who has some of the film's best lines) and Matt Dillon.
Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) is a respectable guidance counselor but he is hot too. Rich girl Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards) wants Mr. Lombardo. One day, she and a friend go to wash Mr. Lombardo's jeep but the next day, she accuses him of rape.
There's a lack of evidence, until (Neve Campbell) white trash Suzie, another student of Sam's, also accuses him of rape too. Sam is taken to court by Kelly's mother. Detective Ray Duquette, played by Kevin Bacon, is not convinced that this is as straight-forward as it seems, and suspects a more devious plan at work.
Later it is realized that Neve Campbell and Denise Richards are sexually involved with each other. Kevin Bacon plays a tough cop who makes no bones that he's also a mean sonabitch. The plot has the numerous twists and turns and will keep you guessing; the ending is brilliant and almost impossible to predict.
