Review of Wild Things (1998) by Moz G — 24 May 2009

Wow. I think I was too young to watch this movie "properly" the first time around. And by "too young", I mean I was hung up on the whole "GASP! TWO GIRLS MAKING OUT!" I mean, it was '98 and it wasn't as commonplace in a mainstream movie (1996's "Bound" was not mainstream). Neve Campbell and Denise Richards? How do you NOT like that when you're 16?!

But several years later, wow. Does this movie ever suck. Granted, the plot is an interesting one. But Matt Dillon is so incredibly terrible. In fact, EVERYONE (with the exception of Bill Murray) is horrid in this. Terrible, TERRIBLE performances. I mean, it makes one cringe. Perhaps if this had been marketed as a comedy about sex crimes I might be more favorable with my opinion.

...Then the girls make out, and for a while (about 25-40 seconds) everything is okay.

Then it (the scene) ends, and you're back to the abomination that is "Wild Things". It totally does NOT make my heart sing. It does not make everything "groovy".
