Review of Wild Things (1998) by Steph O — 03 Aug 2010
It's famous for the extremely suss 'pool scene', but there ARE other things to like about "Wild Things". I thought it would be absolutely awful, but it's actually a fairly interesting thriller.
Thriller might not be the best way to describe it, but that's what I'm going with. The basic premise involves two students accusing the schoool guidance counselor (Matt Dillon) of sexually assaulting them.
It all gets very complex from there, and I won't ruin anything but as Kevin Bacon's character Ray Duquette says: "People aren't always what they appear to be. Don't forget that." Really the only bad thing I could say about this movie would be that the acting isn't all that great.
.. and they may have gone a bit overboard with the various 'twists' in the story... but overall it was pretty well written and interesting. Neve Campbell is always interesting. One last thing; there are a few great shots in this movie that reminded me of some of the old classic Hitchcock shots, and they were used really well.
